Weekend #1

Just finishing my first weekend in Tokyo, and it was really intense. Not because I went clubbing, gambling, drinking or in pursuit of any "normal" weekend activity for the local folk, but because renting a cell phone, buying a coffee in Shibuya, and (trying) to cook my first meal proved to be all I could handle (lol!) And in that order, here are some images of:

Akihabara (electronics district)...

..inside a StarBucks in Shibuya (world's busiest crosswalk)..

..and an unknown type of fish that met a horrible end in my frying pan.

Actually, I only bought the fish because I wandered into a fishery and there were two old ladies who were so polite and kind that I felt obligated to buy something! It didn't turn out so good, luckily I bought a loaf of bread to tide me over.

Day #1 of work starts tomorrow and will be "corporate training" day (before I'm assigned to my research group) so I don't know what to expect! More to come...

First Night

Well, I just flew into Tokyo, and *boy* are my arms tired! (seriously, I guess I'm too sleepy to be funny...) Anyways I took a bunch of over and underground trains to get from the airport to my apartment keys and finally to my apartment. Here is a picture I took of Shinjuku when I got out of the subway:

And here is one of a cool little vending machine inside the subway station near my temporary apartment:

Okay gotta sleep, will share more tomorrow & over the weekend!

First Post! Blog Background & Preview

Well, I just got the news today -- my work VISA has been officially approved by the Japanese government and I'm slated to touch down in Tokyo in little less than three weeks to start my new job at Square-enix on March 1st, 2010!

I am totally excited, but I know it will be as challenging as it will be fun to get up to speed in one of the busiest city in the world.

Please follow my exploits & adventures as I make my way in the Land of the Rising Sun! (side note: my name "Arun" means "the first light of dawn")
