Confessions of a delinquent blogger..

みんなさん、遅くなってすみません!Err, I mean sorry that this post is soooo overdue!  For me, writing a blog is like washing dishes: when there's only a few, it's easy to put off because it doesn't feel like a lot of work, until the dishes/days start piling up, at which point you just ignore the problem until you run out of money for eating out or your apartment starts to smell (or both).  Ok well that analogy was D.O.A. but basically I'm trying to apologize for being late with my post (an ongoing theme of this blog as long-time readers are aware).  Anyway, on the the good stuff!

1st, a few bullet points of the major updates from my life here in Japan:
  • I have a new girlfriend, Tomomi (朋美)
  • I have a new job!  Yes I sold out and joined GREE, a mobile social network/gaming service
  • I have been cooking a lot more (pics to follow) which leads me to my next update..
  • I have... gotten fat (ok, not really but as my girlfriend would say my stomache is "puni-puni")
  • I got a wicked sun-burn at the beach two weeks ago and I'm still recovering from it
  • I'm coming to the East Coast in November (I'm 100% sure!)

Now, on to the meat of my posts, the pictures!  It's been a while so there might be quite a few, sorry if the page is taking forever to load ;)

1000 Sunny (If you don't know what I mean, you really need to read some One Piece!)

My friend Ko (neighborhood bartender) and his daughter at the annual Jamaian festival in Yoyogi park.

Phil Marfuta, my classmate from MIT, passed away this year from brain cancer. R.I.P. brother.

A cool car I saw in Akihabara (the Electronics district of Tokyo)

My pal Rob adjusting the 3D cameras I was using to make a motion capture studio at my last company

Another sweet car in Akihabara! (J come visit!)
And, another car (I like cool cars) this one is pretty weird looking though, I have to admit!

Your average Tokyo freak!

My and my secretary play virtual golf after a hard week of work!

My office the week before I changed jobs, full of cool stuff!

Me and my friend Mona at Zushi beach.

Rob (left) and Dave (right), my former co-workers

I had a good night and met my current girlfriend there!

Sushi by the plate at a Kaiten-Sushi spot (that means rotating Sushi, because all the sushi is on a conveyor belt that covers the whole resteraunt, you just take the plate you want to eat! Each color is a different cost.)

Feelin' good!

Me with an eggplant on my head (dont ask... seriously)

I brought food to work with me!  Korean stew that I cooked the night before.

I just love this cartoon, really it's pretty sick, but I love it!

Me and my girlfriend's hands -- chu (Japanese) = pusu (Finnish) = kiss!

My girlfriend in a makeup magazine!  She has a makeup blog that's pretty famous.

My girlfriend cooks me rolled cabbage (ground beef wrapped in cabbage leaves and steamed)

Heck yeah, Bruins and Boston back on top again!

Remembering Phil with (left to right) Melahn, Me, Andrew, and Justin. I was also MITs 200 year anniversary

My fiend and former room-mate Brendan got laid-out in a hit-and-run while he was biking home.  He is okay now though.  (Luke, I *am* your Father!)

At my home party

Here's looking at you, kid!

My girlfriend Tomomi-chan's famous pancakes!

And.. breakfast! Cereal with bananas, more fried pumpkin, and bread from a bread shop near Tomomi-chan's office

"Hiyashichuka" (Chinese dish very popular in Japan made from egg, cucumber, tomatoes, and cold Chinese noodles)

Tomomi-chan makes creamy mushroom pasta!

Another home party!

My friend Tsukuda-san who lives in the same building made all this food (well, most of it!) Wow!

Hiroshi-san (the other bartender at my favorite local bar)

Me and my girlfriend!

Honestly, I don't remember this picture being taken but I had a good time it seems!  On the balcony of my apartment at my last home-party (I think!)

More breakfast! Eggs and bacon.

Tomomi-chan makes Hayashi rice (rice and Japanese style curry, which isn't spicy at all!!!!)

At the beach again!

My friend Mai meets a dog

Another wonderful breakfast!

Tomomi-chan with her beeest friend  ;)  (just kidding)

Delicious!

More of Tomomi-chan's famous rolled cabbage!  Sooo tasty!

  1. Hey Arun.
I am a PhD student from MIT and I recently received a job from the Advanced Technology Division of Square-Enix. I was wondering if I could briefly get in touch with you to have an insight view of the company and some tips about living in Japan. You can reach me at agf@mit.edu
    Looking forward talking with you.

  2. Hi Arun,
great photos, including the food ones - next time you come stateside you must cook for me and your dad!!
Over here it is bleak yet beautiful - the first snow covering the ground and overcast skies everywhere. Perfect time to curl up on the couch and read (or continue work on the puzzle).

  7. Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a
sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to
    tell someone!
